Gary Hetland VIEW PROFILE

Gary Hetland

Obituaty from the Yakima Herald:

Gary left us on 2/24/20. He lived with his mother, Marge and her parents Chester and Marie Appelhof on the farm in Gleed until she married Bob Hetland. He grew up in Edmonds with his brother Bobby and sister Jeannie but spent summers on the farm. He loved baseball, fishing, hunting and chickens. He wanted to be a farmer but became an electrician. He had Patty and Michael with his first wife. He had daughters Saben and Heidi with second wife Aase and they lived for many years in Kalama until retiring in Bonney Lake.

In Yakima, Gary is survived by aunts Norma Tillett and Karen Pilon and many cousins. He was predeceased by uncle Donald Appelhof and aunts Mary Crea and Gladys Bartley. No services - fishing on the Kalama.

I am very sad to hear of Gary's passing. He was my best friend at Edmonds High School.

A little about Gary that you may not know is that he was a crack shot with a 12 gage shot gun and a master at catching rainbow trout on the Naches River or anywhere else he was fishing.

Gary and I camped, hunted and fished all over Eastern and Western Washington. Gary's gandparents, the Appelhof's had  a large farm on the Naches River where we would stay and fish and hunt pheasants. He also had great aunts and uncles in the Yakima area that I was lucky to have met.

Gary's mother and father, Marge and Bob, took great care to raise Gary and his brother and sister.

This is a short story that I can tell now that Gary has passed on: While hunting on the Appelhof farm one day we were in their corn field and a flight of pheasants took off and Gary shot 3 of them. Not bad shooting with a bolt action shot gun. Unfortunately one was his grandfathers prized rooster as in chicken.

My heart goes out to Aase, Bob, Jeannie, Patty, Michael and Penny.

Well said Bruce, Gary was a great friend to many of his EHS classmates, I don't think he ever had an enemy. I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with Gary during high school and stayed in contact with him after graduation. I am very sad about his passing way to soon. Best to his family.  Keven O'Kinsella
