Douglas Herman, 78, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2023. He was born in Seattle on February 24, 1945, to Durrell and Dolly Herman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don.

Doug grew up in Edmonds and graduated from Edmonds High School in 1963. He attended the University of Washington for a few semesters and enlisted in the Air Force Reserves.

He was called to active duty and served at McChord Air Force Base during the Vietnam War. Upon finishing his duty, he continued working at his family's floor covering business and then expanded his talents to become a builder/developer.

In addition to building many homes and condos in south Snohomish County, boating was Doug's other passion – building, repairing, tinkering, polishing, cruising. He refurbished the sailing vessel, "Mustard Seed" and participated in many sailboat races and events.

He later became interested in power boats and had several along the way; the most recent was the "Piece O' Work" Bertram sport fishing boat. Over the years, he relished time fishing and crabbing and cruising with wife Debra, kids Lindsey and Nick, granddaughter Lexi, friends, and beloved dog, Bruno, in the San Juans, Gulf Islands, and Puget Sound.

As a longtime member of the Edmonds Yacht Club, there were many opportunities to cruise with club members and friends. During many winters, he could be found skiing at Stevens Pass.

Doug loved his family dearly, and leaves behind his wife, Debra; daughter, Lindsey (Mike); son, Nick; granddaughter, Alexis (Greg), and nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind many devoted friends and neighbors.

His happy spirit, smile, and laughter will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Lewy Body Dementia Association are much appreciated.
